Commonwealth Games Scotland is the lead body for Commonwealth Sport in Scotland and its membership is made up of the Scottish governing bodies of the 26 Commonwealth Games Sports. Commonwealth Games Scotland is responsible for selecting, preparing and managing Scotland’s team at the Commonwealth Games and Commonwealth Youth Games; ‘preparing for success’. For each Games, they aim to deliver the best prepared team possible, creating the right environment and giving athletes every opportunity to excel.

What they needed

A key feature of recent Games has been ‘Scotland House’, a home from home for athletes and their families, friends and coaches to visit, relax, celebrate and reflect on their achievements.  As well as supporting Scotland’s athletes, Scotland House supports the shared business objectives of partners staging functions, photocalls and key networking events.

As part of the Scotland House at the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Commonwealth Games Scotland required an additional secure, relaxed and welcoming location to provide support to Team Scotland athletes, staff and their family and friends.

What we did

Working directly to the senior management team of Commonwealth Games Scotland, Eiger developed and delivered a high quality management and operational support structure based on a very specific brief. The resulting area, known as ‘The Athletes Family and Friends Lounge,’ required Eiger to identify, train and manage 16 volunteers. Given the high profile nature of the project, it was necessary to engage with many diverse stakeholders and shareholders.

What the results were

Team Scotland had an outstanding Games smashing its medal target by winning 53 medals - an amazing 20 more medals than ever before! Rightly, praise must go to all the athletes and their support staff for hitting their peak performances at the right time to produce these impressive results. In the delivery of such performances Eiger was proud to have played its part in the provision of the right support structure and environment within Scotland House.
